Akiko Hanazaki was born in Japan and is now based in Cairns. Her pottery style is influenced by her grandmother who was a potter in Japan. Hanazaki likes to experiment with different types of clay and fuse different styles together. She uses Nerikomi (kneading) techniques to creating patterns with colored clay and is also influenced also by the various eras of Japanese pottery.
