Drawing upon her Meriam and Kaurareg heritage (Kerriri – Hammond Island), Lane is inspired by her cultural heritage and connection with country which informs her seductive surface patterns. Working as a practicing artist and interior designer as part of Indij Architecture and Design; a 100% Indigenous-owned architectural and design studio that she co-operates, Lane’s work straddles the intersection of art, design, and the built environment.
The Sergeant Major textile design was inspired by Francoise Lane's expedition to the Great Barrier Reef with her son to snorkel amongst the fish. One of the standouts where a school of sergeant majors with their bold black and white stripes and yellow and black stripes. It was on this expedition that Francoise was told the great news that she was going to be a grandmother! The sergeant-major print was created to capture this memory and dedicated to her son Jordan. The earring design captures one of the striped elements from the textile design.
