"This series is a story about my anxiety.
As a child I was afraid of the monsters under my bed, scared they would reach out with their tentacles and grab my ankles. Now my monsters live with me in my head.
This work is about learning to live with the monsters and my own imperfections. Becoming friends with my monsters and see them as a strength rather than something I need to fix." - Kim Nolan
Kim Nolan is an emerging artist and holds a diploma in Hot Glass and Production from Whanganui Polytechnic in NZ and completed four years of ceramics at Cairns TAFE. Kim currently works from her own studio at Cairns Northern Beaches.
She has participated in many group exhibitions in Cairns, Port Douglas and Brisbane and was recently selected for the Flying Arts Alliance 2023 Emerging Artist Exhibition, Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, Brisbane. Kim is also a finalist in the 2024 North Queensland Ceramics Awards, Townsville. Her work is represented in galleries in Cairns and Artisan Gallery in Brisbane.
The environment in which she lives is a mediative space, and her forms reflect this in their organic nature. She uses different hand building techniques and layering of texture. Combinations of oxides, stains, glazes, and glass further highlight the tactile qualities, and give the work even greater depth. Kim endeavours to make work that is unique and makes you curious enough to want to pick it up and explore it.
