Kim lives in Cairns and has been a scuba diver for 40 years.  For the last 3 years she has held regular pottery workshops at COUCH, the local Wellness Centre for people with cancer. She enjoys re-creating some of the most unlikely creatures that exist beneath the ocean’s surface. These colourful creatures are nudibranchs, found throughout the world’s oceans but most abundant in shallow tropical waters like the Great Barrier Reef. They are crafted using porcelain paper clay and fired to earthenware temperatures.

Nudibranchs (meaning naked gills) are hermaphrodites with an outrageous dress sense, signalling their toxicity. There are over 3000 different types ranging in size from microscopic (4mm) to 60cm, so an endless source of inspiration.
