MALKI STUDIO | ‘Barolin Rocks’ Brooch | Sterling silver / glazed black ceramic / titanium pin / Burmite
Title: Barolin Rocks Brooch
Materials: responsibly sourced sterling silver, glazed black ceramic, titanium pin, Burmite (Burmese amber [Myanmar], approximately 99 million years old).
Inspiration: the exquisite Queensland coastline, including the volcanic basalt rocks that line the shores of certain regions and the dramatic colouration of the skies.
Further Information: Malki Studio’s own Ariella Anderson handmade the glazed black ceramic piece that is a central component of this brooch. Her use of ceramic references the land itself and the direct relationship that exists between humanity and the Earth. Amber from Myanmar is composed of hardened tree resin that is approximately 99 million years old, which speaks to the long history and intimate relationship between this planet and living things.
*Please be aware that the titanium pin that secures this brooch to clothing is sharp.
Care Instructions: clean with warm water and soap (we recommend using an old toothbrush).
Avoid allowing the brooch to grind against hard objects. Avoid contact with hand sanitiser, do not use harsh chemicals, and do not use ultrasonic cleaners on amber or ceramics.
