"Dharrbow (Darrbu) Lag means gardening place. This artwork depicts my aka (Grandmother) who loved her gardening. Aka would plant cassava, banana, taro, sugarcane and many other plants in her garden.
My aka felt it was important to teach her children how to garden and pass this knowledge on from generation to generation. There is not much gardening done now but once it was a very part of the life and culture of people in the Torres Strait Islands. Now at least, I can demonstrate its significance through my art."
