SKIN is a photographic project which celebrates bodily imperfections and promotes self-acceptance and worth in an era of unrealistic beauty standards and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Working with Cairns residents as her subjects, SKIN reflects artist Cristina Bevilacqua’s commitment to using art as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue and societal transformation.
Cristina Bevilacqua is a Cairns-based artist, known for her event and portraiture photography business, The Photo Corner. Cristina is also a carer worker and her photography merges the realms of visual art with social advocacy, capturing the world’s complexities and inequalities, as well as its beauty.
Attaining a Diploma of Photo Imaging more than a decade ago, her photography work has taken her to many places around Australia and Europe. Cristina is also an accomplished underwater photographer, having worked on diving vessels in the Great Barrier Reef for a number of years.
While portraiture is her specialty, the artist has built up a diverse portfolio featuring nostalgic dreamscapes and feminine, highly emotive images.
