Cairns Indigenous Art Fair // Tanks Arts Centre

NorthSite Contemporary Arts brings together artists Sheryl J Burchill, Kassandra Savage, Zane Saunders, and Peter B Morrison whose print editions explore the enduring connections between culture, Country and identity through the theme of ‘Reclamation & Regeneration’. Each of our four First Nations artists have developed a striking new body of printworks, editioned through NorthSite Press with master printer Dian Darmansjah.

Drawing on ancestral totems, the cultural significance of traditional dilly bags, the beauty and ecological importance of marine life and native plant species, and the evolution of Aboriginal symbols and visual language, each artist reclaims stories, knowledge and cultural practices that have been carried across generations. Through contemporary printmaking, these works demonstrate that culture is a living practice—one that is continually renewed through sharing, making and creating.

Together, the exhibition honours the resilience of First Nations knowledge systems, celebrating the regeneration of cultural expression and the deep relationships between people, place and Country. It invites audiences to consider how art can preserve memory, strengthen identity and ensure that cultural traditions continue to evolve, flourish and inspire future generations.

These new printworks are complimented by a beautiful new painting ‘Measuring Stick’ by Zane Saunders which explores the cultural landscape of Far North Queensland through symbols of cultural practice, ancestral totems and Country. It reminds us that when Country is healthy, its people thrive, reinforcing our shared responsibility as custodians of the land.

Of the North, For the North

We work to support artists achieve their aspirations. Artists set their prices and we add a standard service and marketing commission - this supports our not-for-profit programs and allows us to continually turn over the highest-quality artistic products.

Most artworks are one-offs and completely original in the iconic style of that artist; with the exception of intaglio and relief prints, which the organisation is renowned for. Check out our selection of limited-edition fine art printmaking.

Over 95% of the artists we support are from North Queensland. We work with both independent artists and those represented by commercial dealers and art centres.
