Living Arrangement 17 October — 05 December 2026

‘Living Arrangement’ is a series of experimental processes with ink and pen.

These works are an attempt at depicting the energy and life-forms found along the foreshore of Gimuy / Cairns, in an evolutionary relationship with the beautiful and impractical Queenslander home. “I am trying to pay tribute to nature’s energetic power as much as convey a visual image, as if seeing energy will ignite a sense of awe and a relationship of mutual influence”. A composite habitat forms and it’s life is recorded like the botanical archive of a new species.

Aerial roots begin with intentional marks. Then watery top layers organically ‘run’ into cross-bracing, joists, pipes and unplanned growths. Improvised ink flow enables a loosening of directive motion, as if freeing up intention might clear the way for nature’s invisible capacities to materialise.

Pen line forms a topographical map of the ink terrain, ‘listening to’ the contours and depth of field. What unfolds is an unpredictable exploration of the effect of overlay, a search for a relationship that is more than the sum of its parts.

Two symbols of shelter combine and develop, becoming a different arrangement. Excessive top growth naturally leads to leak and collapse. Old portions are ingested, new forms appear.

Of the North, For the North

We work to support artists achieve their aspirations. Artists set their prices and we add a standard service and marketing commission - this supports our not-for-profit programs and allows us to continually turn over the highest-quality artistic products.

Most artworks are one-offs and completely original in the iconic style of that artist; with the exception of intaglio and relief prints, which the organisation is renowned for. Check out our selection of limited-edition fine art printmaking.

Over 95% of the artists we support are from North Queensland. We work with both independent artists and those represented by commercial dealers and art centres.
