"My grandfather had a huge painting of a huge boab, a painting my mother inherited when he died. During a 2 month work project in Kalkarindji, NT, I was lucky to see these magnificent trees."
"The making of these printed pieces was inspired by a video about a group of London women in 1950’s and 60’s – described as housewives, who spent time together carving linocuts of imagery about their everyday life, and then handprinted original dynamic designs onto fabrics that they sewed into clothes, curtains, placemats and tablecloths. They were artists.
Their format gave me a way to combine landscape with personal and traditional stories; a way to frame icons that resonate for me, that are and were part of my landscape during formative times; ways to play with design elements; and I enjoyed experimenting and layering colours." - Hannah Parker
