"I climbed the Temple of the Jaguar in the midday heat and that night I slept on the cool top of the Temple of the Serpent. My body laid on the brutal cold stones where human hearts had been ripped out and handed to the Sun. I watched the sunset over the jungle and the full Moon rise at the same time. I walked home in the dark and shared my stories with my mother. She told me that as a young girl she would go hunting rabbits on the farm with her cats. She would send them down the burrows like ferrets. Have you been face to face with a jaguar? I have. It is terrifying. I was hauling water up a hill and very much lost in my dreams when the jaguar’s powerful form pounced on the cage. I froze and dropped my cargo. In that second I saw a flash of white light. Maybe my pupils over dilated, an instinctive fright response to danger, or was this the psychic flash of a shape shifting shaman transmitting a distress signal while still trapped in the form of a jaguar. I woke up the next day and rode my motorbike into a field of lightning bolts."
