"Kamu takes me back to my childhood days walking home from school. Our school was located at Dogai at the end of the village. The beach was our playground. We’d pick up the kamus and spend hours playing with them as figurines, making up play of Dogai, Markai (Spirits). As kids growing up we didn’t have access to shops. Our parents would go into Thursday Island (TI) only once a year and then gift us with dolls and toy guns. My father made all my toys for me, and my siblings, out of Wongai wood. He would make dugongs, fishes and other sea creatures. My father continued to carve toys for my children until his peaceful passing."
