'Pipi Baskets' are created by Cairns based sculptural basket-maker Pamela Kusabs.
“They are a fusion of techniques developed; with materials I enjoy using. These include ripened Alexandra Palm inflorescences (palm flowers) which are commonly found in and around Cairns, the beauty and shape of which are often overlooked.”
"Having always been interested in making things with my hands I came across basketry here in Cairns and have been active as a basket-maker ever since. Cairns is a perfect place for foraging and collecting, with a wonderful array of natural materials as close to hand as my garden. Overtime I have enjoyed expanding my practice into creating abstract sculptural works of varying sizes. I call myself a sculptural basket-maker.
