“Dogs barking at corollas was inspired by life in Pormpuraaw. There is no shortage of corollas in town. Their call can be heard everywhere. They can form a giant white cloud made of hundreds of individual birds. They land in large trees and then strip it if all its leaves and small branches. Pormpuraaw is also blessed with many dogs. There are more dogs than people with each family easily having 5 or more. Our dogs and corollas have a rivalry. Dogs chase corellas and Corellas squad at dogs from tree branches. Hence the inspiration for my print and painting titled ‘Dogs Barking at Corellas’.” – Sid Bruce Short Joe
