BUNDA ART | 'Memory of Culture VII' | Coconut Boat | Mixed Medium
"Bunda comes from the idinji word meaning "putting things together to make something. The family connection between Roy Gray (Gimuy Walaburra Yidinji Elder) and Jo-Ann Beikoff spans 50 years and through our multi-generational family friendship, we are creating our own contemporary take on traditional art forms that have impacted Roy during his lifetime - within this context of reconciliation and connection, Jo-Ann and Roy work to put things together to make something.
Coconut Boats made with the husks of coconuts were traditionally made as children's toys when Roy grew up in Yarrabah. We have decorated them with found items from around our local area which captures the stories of travel from around Australia" - Jo-Ann Beikoff & Roy Gray
