Lachlan’s current body of work produced for NorthSite gallery comprises woodfired pieces made during his training in India, Bali and under the guidance of North Queensland Woodfiring potters in the few kilns within the region. The forms are his exploration of drinking ware and display objects for the home. Made while he hones his skills and kinds his unique voice in clay.

Lachlan MacKee is an emerging studio potter working out of a private studio in Bayview Heights. Lachlan works with stoneware and, more recently, foraged clay. His work focuses on objects for use within the home, such as drinking vessels & interior design focused pieces. While making, he aims to strike a balance between the looseness of form and contrasting mark-making and chooses to leave evidence of the making process in his work, helping connect maker to end user.

He is an avid wood firer and is mentored by the small but tight-knit community of North Queensland wood-firing potters. He spent the majority of 2024 studying production pottery and wood-firing techniques at the incredible Golden Bridge Pottery in southern India. The skills obtained during this time allowed Lachlan to transition from a sixteen-year career as a detective to that of a working artist. Service Ceramics was established to continue to serve the community, only now with objects he makes.
