Contemporary artist Shin Koyama translates the painted form onto ceramic homewares suitable for everyday use. The imagery in Koyama's work is influenced by the long tradition of Japanese art forms such as anime and manga. The work mixes elements of the erotic, the grotesque, and the cute, to make comic narratives and dramatic scenes. Koyama's irreverent hybrid aesthetic reflects a complex response to contemporary problems inJapan and elsewhere.
