"Life is both tenacious and fragile. Each seed is the threshold of a new generation. For me TC Jasper created a quiet awe of nature’s power/ of loss/ destruction/ fertilisation and renewal. Post flooding I watched the mangroves burst into an abundant flurry of flowering and seeding  dropping blooms and pods on my deck. I made nature mandalas—firstly with the fallen flowers— later the pods saying little prayers of gratitude while noticing their details. After the flood was long gone—at the estuary edge—I noticed a forest of seedlings in the mud my thoughts drifted to the words of Emory Hall 'Let my gardens speak for me when I’m gone’. These resilient mangrove threshold guardians spoke of renewal. ‘Flower Tree’ is a grouping of three mangrove seedling chalice style tree structures symbolising community and regeneration from the tempest.”
