SHIFTING CONTOURS

"In the past I have spent many hours gazing and being mesmerised by the various patterns of contours in the Earth from above.  I now have the privilege of spending a lot of meditative time staring at the shapes, forms and folds in the mountains from my home.  Driving over the the Atherton Tablelands is another source of captivating inspiration, observing the softly curving formations of the rolling hillsides.  Even the flattest looking landscape in the inland deserts are not as flat as they appear with micro undulations caused by ever changing weather and climate variations over the path of time.  For a designer, there are inspiring shapes and forms to be observed everywhere. All of my work as an artist is experimental, which means I push the boundaries of the materials and techniques.  It also means, to some extent, loosing control through the firing of the enamelling process.  This can be either liberating and exciting or frustrating!  But it’s all in the enquiring, evolving learning process."
