Joseph Au, Thupmul, 2016, linocut print on paper, 99.9x200.2cm (image size), edition of 12,
"Thupmul means thorny stingray. The thorny stingray is another family totem from my grandfather. They are deep swimming creatures and during Sageraw Thonar they will head to deeper waters making them difficult to see. During a thunderstorm they will come to the surface of the water. That is what is happening here as they all swim for safety after being spooked by the thunder."
Thupmul sena ngoedhe patal awn. Thupmul lak kedha, awgadh ngaw athen doegamka. Thana koey malu uruyl wowraw thonarnu, thana maluka thamamin a imaygasamin. Dhuyumal thonarnu, thupmiulal lak kayne gathaka kadaka taday uzari, zizi palayzimayl.
