“The Body Language Of Plants” series developed over a few years while voluntarily working at the Australian Tropical Herbarium Cairns, (ATH) located at JCU.

For archival purposes, part of my job was remounting a collection of plant species originally collected in Weipa on behalf of a Mining Company during the 1980s.

The process of removing existing specimens of the original paper, left behind marks or stains caused by the organic plant material.

“The Body Language Of Plants” series shows the original sheets of paper with a new meaning, “ The Body Language Of Plants.   It was like an invitation to create a series of new works that was continuation of my interest in the Australian landscape of Far North Queensland and its fauna.

Claudine Marzik was born in Basel, Switzerland and migrated to Australia in 1988. In her works Marzik responds to the extreme seasonal changes and their effects on the environment in Far North Queensland. 

Best known for her abstract and highly textutured surfaces, Marzik’s unique pictorial visions reflect quintessence of the Australian environment. Prolonged periods of engagement with natural areas of Far North Queensland and a sustained observation of extreme climatic effects upon them have instilled a familiarity that culminates in essential visual truth. 

Marzik has exhibited in Australia and overseas. Her work is represented in public collections and a number of regional galleries.
