"This trees is a red cotton type of tree when we cutting up this partcular wapudth tree for carving in which we can make a wood carved model of little pealing boats from back in the day and then we prep the wood up for the boat which we can test if the wood floats In water is very useful wapudth need to be dyed to be carved the red flowers show in the cotton from the seed." - Paula Savage 

PAULA SAVAGE is from the Dabugal clan of Moa Island and the Kaurareg clan of Muralag (Prince of Wales Island). An artist at the Ngalmun Lagau Minaral Art Centre - Moa Arts, Paula works across weaving, printmaking, and jewellery to share contemporary expressions of Torres Strait Islander culture and ancestral stories.
