MUM'A NAI | 'Magnetic' | Mixed textile appliqué

MUM’A NAI (Naomi Evans) is an emerging artist born in Cairns in 1985. Creating mostly from the intimate space of her home studio, Nai’s artistic focus is centred around repurposing used and discarded objects while exploring the notion of beauty and function.

Her practice focuses on the female form, the human condition, feeling and connection, community, belief systems and ideologies, storytelling, sharing positive messages and personal life experiences.

Nai previous work experience in floristry and upcycled furniture design has allowed a flexibility to explore different styles, materials, and mediums outside the box; resulting in a crossover between traditional and contemporary craft with conceptual art. Her main influences are her parents and grandparents, who were all creative in a variety of ways, and instilled a deep-seated value around repurposing.

Nai is currently working on a group exhibition for a female based theme – ‘Resilience in the Face of Adversity’, to be exhibited in line with International Woman’s Day in 2025.
